Smitty's Homemade Ice Cream has been "Making the Best Ice Cream for the Nicest People" since 2002. It was founded in Burlington, NC by Tom Lambeth and Amy Nakhle, and has since grown to include store locations in Elon and Graham. Hand-making each small batch of homemade, super-premium ice cream has been a work of joy, and love is mixed and mingled with the highest quality, locally sourced seasonal ingredients when available. We are proud to play an active role in building community in our corner of the world, and are grateful for our customers who are the reasons why we do what we do. OUR STORY

In 2002, Amy Nakhle and Tom Lambeth opened Smitty’s Homemade Ice Cream on South Church Street in Burlington before moving the shop to Elon in 2012. Amy Nakhle, who is the sister of Lambeth’s late wife, Susan, was living in West Africa just as Lambeth met Richard “Smitty” Smith at a dude ranch in Arizona. Smith owns Smitty’s Homemade Ice Cream parlors in Cape Cod Massachusetts. He and Lambeth became friends, and Smith inspired Lambeth to open an ice cream parlor in Burlington. Lambeth named his parlors Smitty’s as an homage to Smith’s parlors, but they’re separate businesses, not franchises. Nakhle decided to come back to Alamance County and partnered with Lambeth. They sold ice cream out of the Church Street space until 2012, when they moved operations into the Pandora’s Pies space in downtown Elon. The newest and flagship location opened on East Front Street in Downtown Burlington in 2017.
